1. Norman Rockwell- I chose Rockwell's self portrait work because I have always been interested and fond of his work. I have grown up seeing his classic "Americana" works. I feel like Rockwell's self portrait is comical and credits other famous self portraits as well embodies his own personality and style. I chose this one, because it is, as far as I know, the most iconic and famous of Rockwell's self portraits and I enjoy its simple colors and sharp details.

2. Vincent Van Gogh
Van Gogh, one of the most did many self portraits throughout the course of his life. His self portraits are interesting because they are all very similar, other than differences in hair length and clothing. Van Gogh's unique style makes his self portraits interesting in that they don't look completely realistic, but still present specific emotions, features, and characteristics. I chose this self portrait because it is one of the few that has objects in view other than Van Gogh's face. His easel and paint are visible in the portrait. I find it interesting that the painting isn't completely focused on his face, like in his other self portraits.
3. Pablo Picasso
Picasso, like Van Gogh also had a unique style of painting, which reflected in his self portraits. During the time this self portrait was painting Picasso was involved in his period of African Influence. This influence greatly affected this self portrait. I particularly enjoy the sharp edges, strong lines, and vibrant colors included in this self portrait.

In my opinion, artists create self-portraits to reflect themselves in their work. Through self-portraits, an artist can provide the viewer with a look at who is behind the brush, camera, and so on. I feel like as an artist it would probably be refreshing to create a self-portrait every once in a while, rather than always producing "normal" work.
In regards to "selfies" I feel like this is a simple way for anyone to express their individualism. Anyone can pull out a phone or camera and easily take a picture of themselves. Once posted online or through social media, "selfies" can be viewed and complemented on or criticized. Since everyone enjoys complements, I assume that's why people continue to take and post "selfies" every single day.
The End.
